In the face of the high risk to biodiversity and ecosystem services a transformation in the management of natural resources is needed. The 9th European Conference on Ecological Modelling (ECEM 2023) will address how ecological modelling can help to predict change and human interventions as well as understanding the associated responses of ecological and socio-ecological systems.

The conference will focus on strategies and models that improve modelling, such as representation of response mechanisms, multi-criteria model assessment, model-data fusion, sensitivity and robustness analyses, upscaling and transferability to new regions, linkage to management scenarios, socio-ecological systems, transparency and reproducibility, implementation and testing of theories and concepts, and multi-modelling synthesis.
